As there is no such thing as a “get out of jail free” card in real life, there will be costs involved when you are looking to bail yourself or somebody else out of a jail cell. A bond will need to be paid but as these can sometimes be quite costly, you might be worried about the financial implications.
Fear not, as our team at Balboa Bail Bonds are here to help. We can make sure that the bond is paid so that you or the person you know is free to leave jail. Most bond companies charge 10% of the cost of the bond but we can offer an 8% option. This is a far cheaper option if you don’t have the financial ability to pay more for the bail bond premium.

What Is A Bail Bond?
To get out of jail before the court date arrives, the defendant will need to pay bail. However, if they (or their friends and family members) are unable to afford this, then they will have to wait in jail until their court appearance.
A bail bond is a way to get out of jail early and it can be offered by a Bail Bondsman such as ourselves. The bond is the payment set by the court and if you cannot afford to pay it, we can cover the costs on your behalf.
What Is An 8% Bail Bond?
While we will pay the bail on your behalf, you will still need to pay us a fee. Usually, this is 10% of the total bail cost but if this is out of your financial reach, there is a more affordable option: 8% bail bonds.
So, instead of paying 10% of the overall bail cost, you can pay 8% instead. This can make life financially easier for you, especially if you don’t have the funds available to pay anything more. The fee is non-refundable but it’s a small price to pay to secure freedom from a jail cell. After paying the fee, we pay the rest of the bail amount. This money is then returned to us when the court case has been resolved.
How Does The 8% Bail Bonds Process Work?
If you or somebody you know has been arrested, you should get in touch with us as soon as possible to begin the bail bonds process. Once we have discussed and agreed to the terms related to the 8% bail bond with you, we will be in a position to pay the bond and get you or your loved one out of jail. As the police department will have paperwork to complete, it can take around 1-2 hours before release is granted. County jails can take 4-12 hours to be processed depending on the time of day and location.
As part of the terms that are set out, you or your loved one will need to agree to be present at every court date. If you agree to this, the payment process can begin.
Before we make the bail payment, you will need to pay us the 8% premium. So, if the bail amount is $10,000 for example, the cost to you will be $800. Some bail bond agents in California will also charge you posting and administrative fees on top of the premium but when you choose to use the services of Balboa Bail Funds, there will be no further fees payable by you.
After the bail bond agreement has been finalized and payments to us have been paid, we will go to the jail and post the bail bond. You or your loved one will then be released and to avoid fees and another arrest, the terms and conditions of the release will need to be adhered to.
You can learn more about the bail bonds process on our FAQS page but if you have any further questions, get in touch with us using the contact details on our website.
Can I Qualify For An 8% Bail Bond?
To qualify for an 8% bail bond, you will need a valid California ID, proof of your current employment, and a co-signer.
If you are the defendant, a co-signer is the person who agrees to be responsible for you while you are out on bail and who assumes financial responsibility if the demands of your bail bond agreement are forfeited.
What If I Can’t Afford To Pay The 8% Bail Bond?
At Balboa Bail Bonds, we understand the financial difficulties some of our clients are going through. Paying bail is sometimes an impossibility and the bail premium can also be hard to pay if there is a lack of available cash to cover it.
If you can’t pay the 8% premium in full, a payment plan can be set up to make life easier for you. We will work with you to understand which of our flexible financing plans is better suited to your needs and will discuss your options with you.
What Crimes Do 8% Bail Bonds Cover?
If you or somebody you know has been accused of committing a crime and been locked up after arrest, an 8% bail bond is for you. Regardless of the guilt or innocence of the affected party, it is still possible to make bail with our affordable pricing options.
The types of crimes that have been committed can be wide and many but they include:
DUI (Driving While Under The Influence)
DUI charges result when the person involved drives a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Penalties can include driving license suspension, a hefty fine, a possible jail sentence, and probation for up to five years. There are more severe consequences if death or an injury is the result of the DUI offense or if the person already has DUI offenses filed against them.
If you are charged with a DUI offense, bail can be posted. However, you may be required to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and/or alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs
Domestic Violence
Under California Penal Code, Section 13700, domestic violence is defined as “abuse committed against an adult or fully emancipated minor who is a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, or person with whom the suspect has had a child or is having or has had a dating or engagement relationship.”
If you are arrested because of a domestic violence incident, bail can be posted. However, on your release, it is important to get the help you need to manage your domestic relationships in a peaceful and loving way.
Assault And Battery
You can be accused of assault and battery if you have used unlawful force against another, regardless of whether or not you have caused damage or injury. If you intend to use violence but don’t actually touch the other person, you can also be convicted of the offense. You might also be charged with ‘aggravated assault and battery,’ which is a crime where a serious violent assault has been committed.
If are arrested for these crimes, bail can be posted. However, on release, you should consider your actions and seek help with regard to your violent behavior.
Child Endangerment
If a child in your care is put in mental or physical danger because of your failure to ensure their safety, you can be charged with ‘child endangerment.’ It often goes hand in hand with other criminal charges, such as ‘child neglect’ and ‘child abandonment.’ Bail can be posted but there may be terms related to your release that you will have to follow.
