That’s where Balboa Bail Bonds can help. By contacting us as soon as possible, we can help to determine the right type of bail bond for your case and get started on your release from jail.

When it comes to the varieties of bail bonds, the differences between each one are largely based on the defendant’s charges, their citizenship status, and their financial assets at the time of arrest. Some of the most important bail bonds that everyone should know about include:

  • Federal Bail Bonds: a federal bail bond is important for anyone if they have been charged with a federal offense. These charges are often very serious, such as kidnapping, armed bank robbery, or homicide. Due to the significance of the charges in the defendant’s case, federal bail bonds tend to have a higher cost than other bonds.
  • Cash Bonds: a cash bond simply means that you are paying your bail in cash. Oftentimes, arrestees will not have sufficient funds to pay their bail strictly in cash, which is why many of them opt to contact a bail bondsman. If the arrestee does pay in cash, there may be some added risk since they will not be able to access these funds until about two months following their trial. Cash bonds are used in situations where the judge suspects the defendant to be a flight risk. It ensures that the court will receive payment despite the defendant failing to appear at their court dates.
  • Surety Bail Bonds: the most commonly used bail bond among licensed bail agents is a surety bond. This is an agreement among the arrestee and the bail agent that the client will pay a certain percentage of the total bail amount (usually 10%) and the bondsman will cover the rest of their bail. If the arrestee fails to make every scheduled court appearance, the surety bail bond will be forfeited and there can be several consequences. In some cases, bail agents may ask for collateral to secure a surety bond. This can include real estate and other forms of property.
  • Property Bonds: while they are not used in every state, California allows the use of something called a property bond. Property bonds are similar to cash bonds but instead of using cash to secure bail, you are agreeing to use the value of your property as collateral for your release. In general, property bonds take more time to be processed than surety or cash bonds because the courts need to conduct a thorough assessment of the property’s value before it can be accepted. The property used in these bonds must be valued at twice the amount of the original bail as determined by the courts.
  • Immigration Bonds: immigration bonds are special types of bonds that are used to secure the release of undocumented immigrants. Because immigration -related cases are handled by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the process of obtaining an immigration bond can be extremely complex. There is also a different set of criteria based on the particular legal status of the immigrant, which affects the circumstances of obtaining an immigration bond.
